College softball: Vargas records second-straight shutout in win over Purdue

Vargas has allowed just seven hits in her last two starts, including a complete game victory over the Boilermakers on Thursday.

OXFORD, Mississippi — Paige Vargas continued to dominate, throwing her second-straight shutout in a 4-0 North Dakota State win over Purdue on Thursday in the Bison's first game of the Rebel Invitational.

Vargas went the distance, allowing six hits, a walk and striking out eight to improve to 8-5. On Tuesday, Vargas fired a one-hitter and struck out seven in a 2-0 win over Mississippi State.

The Bison scored two runs in the first. Bella Dean drove in a run on a ground out and Carley Goetschius scored on a wild pitch.

NDSU added a run in the fourth on Ella Claus' RBI single and another run in the fifth on Zoe King's run-scoring single.

The Bison improved to 15-11 overall and they play Samford in the invitational at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18.
