Schneider's goal proves decisive as Bison women's soccer downs Leathernecks

A second half goal provided the winning margin for the hosts.

FARGO — A 58th minute goal from junior defender Ellie Schneider gave the North Dakota State Bison women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting Western Illinois Friday night, Feb. 19.

The matchup was goalless at the end of the first half, with the hosts outshooting Western Illinois 5-1 in the opening 45 minutes.

Early in the second half, Leathernecks goalkeeper Isabel Navas Rodriguez turned away a shot from NDSU's Ashleigh Heely, giving the Bison a corner kick. Schneider broke the deadlock following the corner, giving the hosts the deciding margin.

The Bison out-shot Western Illinois by and 8-3 margin, as goalie Aly Cole made a pair of saves.

The victory moved the Bison to 2-1 both overall and in Summit League play. Western Illinois fell to 0-3 both overall and in conference.

The two teams meet again at 1 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 21.
