RENO, Nevada — Heaven Hamling scored a career-high 39 points and North Dakota State defeated Nevada 73-68 on Sunday to wrap up play in the Nugget Classic at the Lawlor Events Center.
Hamling hit 11 of 19 shots from the floor, including 7 of 12 shooting from 3-point range. She also was 10 of 10 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds and had three steals.
Hamling's 39 points rank as the program's third-most all-time and marked her second career 30-point performance. Hamling also surpassed 1,000 career points and has 1,013.
Elle Evans also scored in double figures for a third-straight game, finishing with 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists. Abby Schulte scored two points but had a career-high six assists and she pulled down six rebounds.
NDSU shot 40 percent (22 of 55) from the field, was 12 of 29 from 3-point range and made 17 of 21 free throws (81 percent). In addition to Hamling, Evans also was perfect from the foul line, hitting all four of her attempts.

The Bison never trailed in the game and started fast, taking an 18-8 lead after Hamling knocked down a triple with 39 seconds to play in the first quarter. NDSU then built its largest lead of the game, 24-10, when Hamling hit a jumper with 7:57 to play in the half.
The Wolf Pack trimmed the Bison lead to 30-27 at the intermission, but NDSU scored the first five points of the third quarter on Abby Graham's 3-pointer and two free throws from Hamling. The Bison led 40-33 with 4:04 left in the third.
The Wolf Pack made one final surge in the fourth quarter, cutting the NDSU lead to 59-57 on an Alyssa Jimenez jumper. The Bison responded with an 8-0 run to stretch their lead to 10 points at 67-57.
Hamling and Evans were both named to the Nugget Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Bison are 6-0 overall after winning both their Classic games. The play next at Eastern Michigan at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1.
