Bison wrestling team splits pair of Sunday duals

Jared Franek wins twice at 157 pounds as NDSU defeated South Dakota State, fell to Northern Iowa

Jared Franek's victory at 157 pounds propelled the North Dakota State wrestling team to a 21-13 victory over South Dakota State in one of the Bison's two Big 12 Conference duals on Sunday in Brookings, S.D.

Franek, ranked No. 13 nationally, defeated 20th-ranked Cade DeVos of SDSU 4-2 in a sudden-victory period. Franek also defeated Northern Iowa's Cayd Lara 5-1 earlier in the day but 23rd-ranked UNI prevailed 27-11.

Against SDSU, McGwire Midkiff (125 pounds), Jaden Van Maanen (149), Austin Brenner (165), Luke Weber (174), TJ Pottinger (184) and Brandon Metz (285) also won their matches.

Against UNI, Dylan Droegemueller (141), Franek and Michael Nelson (197) won matches.
