The University of North Dakota named four candidates Thursday to be interviewed next week for the head men's basketball coaching job.

More candidates could receive on-campus interviews, UND athletic director Tom Buning said in a news release. Buning was not made available for comment Thursday.

The candidates are former Eastern Illinois assistant Steve Weemer, current Sioux associate head coach Randall Herbst, Iowa director of basketball operations Brian Jones and Winona State's Tom Brown.

Scheduled to interview Monday, Weemer was an assistant at Eastern Illinois for seven years. He was the head coach at Waubonsie Valley High School in Illinois this season.

Jones has been a Hawkeyes assistant the past five years, focusing on scouting and recruiting.

He was recently reassigned to basketball operations at Iowa.

Jones will interview Wednesday.

Brown is the assistant head coach for the Warriors, who won the NCAA Division II national title this season. A graduate of Winona State, Brown will interview Thursday.

Herbst, who has been with the Sioux for six years and earned the recommendation of former coach Rich Glas and current players, will interview Tuesday.

Each of the candidates will meet with the public on the day of their interview at 7:30 p.m. at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

Glas resigned after 18 seasons to become associate head coach at Division I Northern Iowa. He has the most victories in UND history with 335.
