CHICAGO — Bismarck Century junior Lauren Ware has been named Gatorade North Dakota player of year for girls basketball.

The 6-foot-5 center is averaging 17.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.6 blocked shots and 2.1 assists through 24 games for Century, which has a 25-0 record, heading into Friday's Class A state semifinals at the Bismarck Event Center.

"Lauren Ware is the most dominant rim protector I've encountered in 13 years coaching," said Bismarck Legacy head coach Jim Petrik. "She gets numerous blocks, and the shots she doesn't block, she alters."

Ware has a 3.89 grade-point average. She is the second Century player to win the award. Hannah Larson earned the honor for the 2012-13 season.
