MOORHEAD - Concordia finally earned a day off.

The Cobbers swept St. Mary's in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Thursday at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex.

Concordia's 10-5 and 5-4 victories against the Cardinals helped the Cobbers earn the No. 2 seed for the MIAC playoffs.

The top two seeds in the tournament, which starts today in Minnetonka, earned first-round byes.

St. Thomas is the top seed.

The MIAC playoffs are a six-team, single-elimination tournament this spring because not all 11 teams were able to complete their entire league schedule.

"I'm pretty excited," said Cobbers freshman left fielder Devin Johnson, who had a three-run home run in Game 2 against

St. Mary's. "The day off will be pretty nice."

The Cobbers (18-14, 11-9 MIAC) had played doubleheaders on four consecutive days, counting Thursday's games.

"Four doubleheaders in a row, it takes a toll on you," Johnson said.

Johnson had a big day against St. Mary's. He went 2-for-2 with three runs scored in Game 1. Johnson's three-run home run in the second game gave the Cobbers a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning.

"We had a good successful week of baseball," said Cobbers head coach Bucky Burgau. "We are playing pretty doggone good."

Earlier this week, Burgau won his 400th career MIAC game, becoming the first coach in MIAC history to reach that milestone.
