NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- Concordia women's basketball coach Jessica Rahman hoped for the best.

She got the worst.

Carleton held the Cobbers to just 17.5 percent shooting en route to a 62-40 victory Saturday in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoff finals at West Gymnasium.

The victory propels Carleton into the NCAA Division III national tournament.

The Cobbers hit just two field goals and shot 6 percent in the first half as Carleton built a 20-10 lead.

"They came out and played real tough defense," Rahman said. "It was just one of those halves."

Concordia pulled to within eight points of the lead early in the second, but the Knights pulled away with a 16-5 run.

Carleton was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc and 15 of 18 from the free-throw line in the second half.

"If we could've strung some shots together it would have helped us a lot," Rahman said. "We had to battle in there for everything."

Junior guard Mandy Pearson led the Cobbers with 12 points.

Megan Vig and Katie Freeman had 13 apiece to lead the Knights.

"(Carleton) played a very physical style of defense," Rahman said. "We just

couldn't get a shot to fall."
