FARGO — In the span of a week, North Dakota State University's College of Engineering won this year's Battle of the Cents-es with rare coins donated by a retired faculty member.

Student ambassadors from that department raised $4,296.85 while the ambassadors from the College of Health Professions raised $2,221.39

The final total topped $9,193.46.

Coins and Venmo donations were counted as positive points toward each college’s total, and dollar bills acted as negative points that will be subtracted from each college’s total.

The money will go towards continued care of medication and additional heart procedures for Aaron Erickson, who is a Moorhead High School Student and child of a former NDSU teacher born with a rare heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome .
