FARGO — North Dakota State and Maine are going to play football after all, just 22 years later. The two schools agreed to a one-year contract to play a non-conference game at Gate City Bank Field at the Fargodome in 2023.
The Bison have just one date left to fill that season with a home game also scheduled against Central Arkansas. The Maine game is set for Sept. 9.
The 2001 Maine game at the dome was slated to be NDSU's first against a Division I-AA opponent. The Bison didn't start at Division I transition and schedule until 2004. Maine, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, has reached the FCS playoffs eight times including the semifinals as recently as 2018.
