Cobbers sophomore earns runner-up finish at NWCA Division III wrestling nationals

Concordia Cobbers sophomore Gabe Zierden earned second place at 197 pounds at the NWCA Division III national tournament.

CORALVILLE, Iowa — Concordia Cobbers sophomore Gabe Zierden finished in second place at 197 pounds at the NWCA Division III national meet this past weekend.

Zierden went 4-1 at the national meet and lost by a 10-2 major decision against North Central's Cody Baldridge in the championship match.

Cobbers senior Alex Skaare also earned NWCA All-American honors, finishing in seventh place at 174 pounds. Skaare posted a 4-2 record at the meet and earned a fall against Coe College's Tristin Westphal at 4 minutes, 52 seconds in the seventh-place match.

Zierden and Skaare are the first Cobbers to earn All-American honors since 2016 when Jakob Stageberg was an NCAA All-American.
