MOORHEAD — Minnesota Duluth swept a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader against Minnesota State Moorhead on Wednesday at Nemzek Softball Field.
The Bulldogs took the first game 4-2 and wrapped up the sweep with a 17-3 win in five innings in Game 2.
In the first game, the Dragons took a 2-0 lead in the second when Ella Holiman drew a bases-loaded walk and Annika Norman scored on a Bulldogs throwing error.
But UMD answered right away, scoring three runs in the top of the third. Pitcher Lauren Dixon then shut out the Dragons the final five innings. She allowed one earned run on three hits and she struck out 13.
Norman, Piper McKibbin and Evey Evans had the Dragons' hits. Reece Dahl was strong in relief, allowing a run on six hits in 3-1/3 innings and striking out three.

In the second game, UMD took a commanding 9-0 lead with a six-run third, then scored eight more in the fifth.
MSUM's Eliyah McCarthy and Avery Steffen both had two hits, and Steffen and Norman drove in runs.
The Dragons are 3-15 in the NSIC and 6-28 overall. They play a doubleheader at Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, April 23. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
