LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Concordia wrestling team defeated Dubuque, and fell to Wabash and Johnson & Wales on Thursday during the NWCA National Duals at Kentucky International Convention Center.
Wabash edged the Cobbers 22-18 in the first round of the championship bracket. Ty Bisek and Tyler Bents each picked up victories via pin to lead the Cobbers. Bisek pinned Andrew Sinkovics in 2 minutes, 52 seconds at 133 pounds. Bents pinned Tyson Nisley in the 157-pound bout in 4:02.
Concordia then rolled by Dubuque 31-6 in the consolation bracket. Bret Wilson, Kaden Spindler and Gabriel Zierden each earned technical fall victories for the Cobbers. At 165 pounds, Wilson topped Evan Atchley 15-0, Spindler (174) defeated Julius Boimah 20-2 and Zierden (197) bested Tyler Thurston 17-2.
The Cobbers ended the day with a 36-6 loss to Johnson & Wales. Bisek and Kellen Schauer each got wins for the Cobbers. The 133-pound Bisek earned a 12-10 decision over Gabriel Leo-Esparolini, while Schauer notched a 4-3 decision over Thomas DiResta at 149.
