Dragons wrestler Cole Jones advances to Day 2 of Midwest Classic

Jones picked up two wins on the day to advance to Sunday's consolation bracket

INDIANAPOLIS — Minnesota State Moorhead wrestler Coles Jones went 2-1 on Saturday to advance to Day 2 of the Midwest Classic.

Jones opened with a 7-0 win over American International's Aaron Morocho at 133 pounds. Jones then pinned Belmont Abby College's Ben Fielding in 4 minutes, 19 seconds. He dropped a tight match to Drury's Brandon Borlinghaus 10-8, but is still in play to place at the 42-team tournament.

Jones is set to face Coker College's Hunter Ross in the consolation bracket on Sunday.

MSUM's Declan Malone went 2-2 on Saturday at 149 pounds. He lost in the first round, but bounced back to defeat Lindenwood's Jack Tangen 12-10 in overtime and followed with a 7-4 win over McKendree's Noah Villerreal. Jason Hanenberg of Western Colorado put an end to Malone's tournament run with a pin.
