ABERDEEN, S.D. — Emma Dummer hit two home runs to lift the Minnesota State Moorhead softball team to a 6-4 victory in extra innings over Northern State on Tuesday night to open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at the Presentation Dome.
In Game 1, the Dragons (7-12, 1-0 NSIC) were held scoreless for the first five innings, before scoring three runs in the top of the sixth via a Dummer three-run home run. Kaiya Sundeen ripped an RBI triple down the right-field line in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Samantha Gjerde hit a solo home run to give MSUM a one-run lead. Dummer followed by blasting a solo homer to give the Dragons a two-run cushion.
At press time, the Wolves (8-15, 0-1) held a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning in Game 2.
