High jumpers pace Dragons track and field team at SDSU Invitational

MSUM notched several wins in Brookings

BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Minnesota State Moorhead track and field teams tallied four wins at the South Dakota State Division II Invitational.

Dragons sophomore Travis Joseph won the men's high jump with a mark of 7 feet, 1/2 inch, which is the best in the nation. Senior Chris Cook was third with a season-best 6-8 3/4.

MSUM junior Shyrone Kemp won the men's triple jump with a leap of 50-11 1/4, tied for fourth-best in the nation and the best in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season.

The Dragons men's 1,600 relay team took first place with a time of 3 minutes, 19.09 seconds. The relay squad consisted of junior Ty Dawkins, freshman Elliot MacLennan, Joseph and sophomore Ibrahim Oduong.

MSUM senior Rachel Schumacher was victorious in the women's high jump with a mark of 5-5. Sophomore Ashley Hokanson was second in the pole vault at 11-11 3/4, second-best in the NSIC so far this season.

The Dragons will have athletes competing at Concordia on Saturday.
