Men's hockey: Gustavus bests Concordia in shootout

The Gusties scored the only shootout goal in the teams' six tries in an MIAC game on Friday.

MOORHEAD — Kyle Heffron scored the lone goal in a shootout and Gustavus defeated Concordia 5-4 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday at the Cullen Hockey Center.

The teams both had three shots in the shootout.

Concordia's Caden Triggs, Hanson O'Leary, Garrett Sandberg and Mason Plante scored goals in the first two periods and the Cobbers' led 4-2 late in the second. But Heffron, who scored two goals, connected at 18:22 of the second and teammate Nate Stone tied it with a goal at 4:45 of the third, forcing OT.

The Cobbers fell to 6-6-1 in the MIAC and 9-11-3 overall. The teams play again at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Cullen.
