Women's basketball: Defense key to Upper Iowa's win over Dragons

The Peacocks jumped out to an early lead and posted an NSIC home win over MSU Moorhead on Friday.

FAYETTE, Iowa — Upper Iowa jumped out to an eight-point lead after one quarter and stymied Minnesota State Moorhead's offense in a 74-59 win in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game on Friday at Dorman Memorial Gym.

The Dragons shot just 35 percent from the field overall and connected on just 6 of 26 3-point attempts.

Mariah McKeever led the Dragons with 17 points and she had eight rebounds and four steals. Peyton Boom had 14 points and 11 rebounds, Natalie Jens had nine points, six rebounds and five assists, and Olivia Skibiel scored nine points.

The Dragons are 6-9 in the NSIC and 9-10 overall. They play at Winona State at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, in Winona.
