Women's basketball: Dragons bounce back with convincing win at Winona State

A day after a 15-point loss, MSU Moorhead started strong and defeated Winona State in a NSIC matchup on Saturday.

WINONA, Minn. — Minnesota State Moorhead bounced back from a tough road loss and rolled to a 66-54 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win over Winona State on Saturday.

The Dragons, who lost by 15 points at Upper Iowa on Friday, scored 21 points in both the first and second quarters and led by 16 points at the break. The Dragons led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter before coasting home.

Mariah McKeever led the Dragons with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Peyton Boom had 15 points and 10 boards, and Terryn Johnson finished with 14 points and three assists.

The Dragons improved to 7-10 in the NSIC and 10-10 overall. They play host to undefeated NSIC leader Minnesota Duluth (15-0 NSIC, 18-2) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3. St. Cloud State is in Moorhead for a 5:30 p.m. conference game on Saturday, Feb. 4.
