Sara Scalia scored a game-high 31 points, Deja Winters contributed 17 and Jasmine Powell dished out nine assists, but the Gophers women’s basketball team couldn’t get past Michigan State on Sunday, falling 74-71 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich.
Nia Clouden led the Spartans (10-8, 4-3 Big Ten) with a team-high 25 points, and Matilda Ekh scored 23. They combined to hit 12 3-pointers as Michigan State shot 42 percent from deep.
Scalia shot 9 of 19 from the field and hit 7 3-pointers of her own, keeping the Gophers ahead early.
Minnesota (9-11, 2-6) held a four-point lead at halftime, but the Spartans stormed back with Clouden leading the way. She scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and hit two late free throws to push Michigan State to the win.
Kadi Sissoko scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds, while Powell added nine points. Both teams had 13 turnovers.

The loss was the Gophers’ third straight. Minnesota will look to end its current skid on Thursday when it plays at Purdue.
