Women's hockey: Cobbers top St. Mary's in shootout

Abbey Hardwick connected in the shootout as Concordia defeated the Cardinals in a MIAC game Friday.

MOORHEAD — Abbey Hardwick connected on the only one of five shots in a shootout and Concordia defeated St. Mary's 2-1 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday at the Moorhead Sports Center.

The teams played scoreless hockey through two periods but Concordia took the lead on Jade Ford's goal at 8:47 of the third with an assist to McKenzie Oelkers. But the Cardinals' Kas Kingston force over time with a goal with just five seconds left in regulation. The teams played a scoreless OT.

Cobbers goalie Kiana Flaig stopped 42 of 43 shots and St. Mary's Jordan Keeley made 20 saves.

The Cobbers improved to 3-13-1 in the MIAC and 7-15-2 overall. The Cardinals are 4-11-2 in the conference and 7-15-2 overall. The teams wrap up the regular season at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Sports Center.
