RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Wisconsin-River Falls notched a narrow 4-3 victory over Concordia on Friday in nonconference women's hockey at Hunt Arena.
Abigail Stow and Reilly Springman scored in the first period to give WRF a 2-0 lead. Concordia's McKenzie Oelkers sliced it to 2-1 on an assist from Brooke McMillan late in the opening frame.
River Falls and Concordia traded goals in the second frame. Maddie McCollins pushed it to 3-1 44 seconds into the period, but the Cobbers had an answer. Jerica Friese buried a power-play goal 5:59 into the period, assisted by Jordie Egerdahl and Abbey Hardwick.
The Cobbers then tied it early in the third period when Josie Hell scored 1:21 into the frame. River Falls quickly responded when Hadley Malcolmson scored the go-ahead goal just under 30 seconds later to set up the 4-3 final.
Concordia goalie Kiana Flaig stopped 30 shots. The Cobbers (6-6) and Falcons (11-1) are scheduled to cap the two-game series at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunt Arena.
