Women's tennis: Dragons close season with loss to Winona State

MSU Moorhead fell one place in the standings short of qualifying for the NSIC tournament, which is April 21-23 in Sioux Falls.

FARGO — Winona State swept three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to defeat the Minnesota State Moorhead women's tennis team 6-1 on Sunday in the Dragons' season finale at Courts Plus.

The Dragons fell one place in the standings short of qualifying for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament on April 21-23 in Sioux Falls.

The Warriors took the doubles point and got wins at Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles. MSUM's Tia Dykema earned the Dragons' point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sara Anderson and No. 3 singles.

The Dragons finished the season 4-7 in NSIC matches and 8-10 overall.

Winona earned the NSIC's No. 6 seed and faces No. 3 UMary in Friday's first round. Top seed Augustana is the heavy favorite, having won 151 straight NSIC matches since April 2009. The Auggies have won 13 straight regular season championships and the last 11 tournament titles.
