Concordia hires four assistant football coaches

Concordia Cobbers

MOORHEAD - Four assistant coaches, all with connections to the Fargo-Moorhead area, have been hired for Concordia’s football team.

Cobber head coach Terry Horan announced Tuesday the hiring of Luke Peterson, Darrell Olson, Andrew Moore and Jason Montonye. They replace long-time assistants Dale Hertel, Dan Kostich and John Marsh who retired after the end of the 2018 season and defensive backs coach Brian Mistro who left to take the head coaching position at the University of Jamestown.

Peterson, Olson and Montonye all played for the Cobbers while Moore spent the past two seasons as a student assistant at North Dakota State University.

Peterson, who will take over for Mistro as the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator, played for Concordia from 2010-13. He has been a linebackers coach at Wisconsin-Stout since 2016.

Olson, a tight end for Concordia in the mid 1970s, was a graduate assistant coach at NDSU in 1988 and had high school coaching stints at West Fargo, Pelican Rapids, Minn., and Maple Grove, Minn. Olson will be the receivers coach for the Cobbers.

At NDSU, Moore was responsible for scouting and helped with recruiting. Moore will be an assistant offensive coach at Concordia.

Montonye was a standout running back at Concordia from 2014-17. Montonye, who was working on his masters degree at Minnesota State-Mankato this past year, will be the fullback and tight ends coach at Concordia.
