GRAND FORKS – Jennifer Marsh has not-so-fond memories of the last time she played in a high school golf meet at Grand Forks Country Club.
After consistently shooting sub-80 scores during the 2013 season, the Fargo Davies standout had rounds of 80 and 84 at the 2013 North Dakota state meet at the country club. That was capped by a 3-over-par 8 on the final hole, leaving her tied for eighth place.
“I was beating everybody in my group, then I hit over the pin and off the green,” Marsh said of that final hole, on which she 4-putted. “It wasn’t good.
“You just have to get over it. You can’t dwell on it. But (that score) is incentive for me to do well. Not just here, but on every course.”
Marsh made a successful return to the Grand Forks Country Club on Monday. The Davies junior was a medalist in the Grand Forks Invitational, leading the Eagles to the team title. Davies finished with a 371 to beat runner-up Wahpeton by four strokes.
Marsh shot a 77, five shots ahead of second-place Savonnah Haselhorst of Wahpeton and 10 ahead of Fargo North’s Abby Sklebar.
“Jennifer gives us a cushion,” Davies coach Heather Yarber said. “Even on a bad day, she isn’t going to err too far out of the box.”
Yarber said Marsh doesn’t have problems with the Grand Forks Country Club. And her history indicates that – she was medalist in the East Region meet at the country club prior to the state meet last season.
“She says she wants to do better everywhere this year,” Yarber said.
