Defending champions fall

MINOT, N.D. - There will be a new champion in Class B volleyball.

Dickinson Trinity beat defending champion Kenmare 25-19, 23-15, 19-25, 25-18, 15-9 to reach the finals of the North Dakota Class B state tournament Friday at the Minot State Dome. Trinity will play Langdon at 8 p.m. today for its first state volleyball title.

Breanna Messer had 14 kills, four blocks and six ace serves to lead the Titans. Emily Gordon and Marinna Marsh each had 11 kills, and Shannon Ernst and Avery Jirges had 10 kills for Trinity.

Katie King led three Honkers in double-digit kills with 17. Steph Barnhart and Keri Nelson each had 13 kills.

KENMARE (kills-blocks-aces): Colby 0-0-0, Zietz 0-0-0, Ke. Miller 2-0-1 (38 assists), Barnhart 13-4-4, Harris 0-0-0, Froseth 3-0-0 (23 digs), Ko. Miller 3-0-0, Essler 0-0-0, Nelson 13-0-1, King 17-3-1.

McKenzie Hart and Courtney Becker combined for 30 kills to lift the Cardinals into the finals with a 17-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-17 comeback victory.

The Cardinals finished with 10 ace serves.

Heather Brown led the Rebels with 11 kills.

Veronica Munkeby had 17 kills and three blocks to lead the Broncos to the consolation finals with a 26-24, 25-11, 25-14 win.

The Broncos will face Center Stanton at noon today for the consolation title.

Lisbon finished with a .455 hitting percentage for the match.

Setter Susan Lyons had 28 assists for Lisbon.

Senior Jori Fladeland had nine kills and a block to lead Stanley.

The Wildcats held off Thompson for a 25-23, 25-22,

18-25, 18-25, 15-10 win.

Jenny Erhardt finished with 14 kills, 19 digs and three blocks to lead Center Stanton.

Nicole Schumacher had 20 digs and 33 assists to lead the Tommies.

Thompson combined for 93 digs in the match. Six Tommies had double-digit digs.
