OAKES, N.D. - Kindred made it a clean sweep for District 2 on Monday.

The Vikings swept Milnor 25-12, 25-19, 25-19 during the quarterfinals of the North Dakota Class B, Region 1 volleyball tournament at Oakes High School.

All four of the teams representing District 2 defeated their District 1 counterparts.

Kellie Schmit helped the Vikings complete the sweep by posting 15 kills and three blocks to top the Bison.

Schmit - a 5-foot-11 outside hitter - keyed Kindred's offense the entire match.

"She is a gamer," Kindred head coach Brooks Dockter said of Schmit. "We expect that from her. When we are in a tight situation we expect her to want the ball and be able to put it away."

Kindred (30-10) plays Northern Cass in the semifinals 25 minutes following the conclusion of the Central Cass-Fargo Oak Grove match, which begins at 6 p.m.

Rachel Hall and Ally Erickson each added four kills for the Vikings.

"We added a couple of different things on offense to give Kellie (Schmit) some better one-on-one opportunities and some of our other kids better one-on-one opportunities," Dockter said. "I thought it worked out pretty well."

Jackie Ellefson posted six kills and two blocks for Milnor. The Bison finish the season 19-13.

Northern Cass hung on to defeat Oakes 25-22, 20-25, 25-12, 25-18.

The Jaguars (21-13) had three players with 10 or more kills. Junior outside hitter Vanessa Johnson paced the Jaguars with 18 kills and three blocks.

Seniors Lexi Zieske and Chelsy Strauss added 11 and 10 kills, respectively, for Northern Cass.

The Jaguars won the opening set despite allowing the Tornadoes to come back from an eight-point deficit. Oakes took the second set, but was unable to build on that victory.

"We came out a little sluggish in the first set," Oakes head coach Kathy Warren said. "I think they were a little freaked out and let the pressure get to them. They snapped out of it and played a very good second set, but we couldn't hold on.

"Off and on we had the momentum. ... It just wasn't our night."

Nicole Warren had 17 kills, 13 digs and two aces to pace the Tornadoes (26-10).

Northern Cass head coach Tom Klapp said the matchup with Kindred will be a challenge.

"We've got to match Kindred's speed and aggressiveness," Klapp said. "If we are able to do that we should be able to have a good match with them."
