An offensive lineman for the Minnesota State Moorhead football team has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Anthony Sands, a 6-foot, 6-inch, 285-pound sophomore from Roseville, Minn., was arrested March 9 in Moorhead after being stopped in the 300 block of 17th Street South at about 11 p.m. for driving with no headlights or taillights, according to charges filed April 1 in Clay County District Court.

In a preliminary test of his blood alcohol content during the traffic stop, Sands, a 20-year-old, blew a .111, according to court records. It's illegal to drive with a BAC of .08 or more.

A report filed by the arresting officer said Sands informed police he played for the Dragons.

"As I was placing Sands under arrest, he began to ask me multiple times if there was any way that he could get out of this. Sands stated this multiple times also indicating that he was an MSUM football player," the officer wrote.

Sands was still listed on the online roster Monday and a phone message to NaDean Schroeder, assistant athletics director for media and public relations, was not returned.
