Dragons men's basketball team sets scoring record in dominant win over Crown

Trever Kaiser poured in an efficient 32 points in 23 minutes off the bench to lead the Dragons.

MOORHEAD — Minnesota State Moorhead rolled to a 136-65 nonconference victory over Division III Crown College on Tuesday at Nemzek Fieldhouse in the men's basketball team's home opener. MSUM's 136 points were a new single-game school record, besting the the previous of 126 set against Crossroads College in 2015.

The Dragons held a 65-28 lead at halftime and won the second half 71-37.

Trever Kaiser poured in an efficient 32 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench to lead the Dragons. Kaiser shot 11 of 14 from the field, 7 of 8 from 3-point range and 3 for 3 from the free-throw line. Jesse Bergh added 19 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench. Bergh shot 4 of 5 from the field and 10 for 10 from the free-throw line.

MSUM's Lorenzo McGhee scored 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting to lead the starters. Gavin Baumgartner had 14 points, three assists and two steals, shooting 5 of 6 from the field. Jaden Stanley-Williams added 13 points on 5 for 6 shooting in 10 minutes off the bench.

As a team, the Dragons shot 72.6% (45 of 62) overall from the field, including 62.5% (15 of 24) from beyond the arc. MSUM knocked down 31 of 38 free-throw attempts. The Dragons held Crown to 24 of 60 (40%) shooting for the game.

MSUM (3-3) hosts Mayville State for a nonconference bout at 7 p.m. Friday.
