Dragons track and field secure 7 wins at Bemidji

BEMIDJI, Minn. — The Minnesota State Moorhead track and field team won seven events at the Bemidji Open on Saturday. No team scores were kept.

The Dragons finished 1-2 in four events. Sophomore Shryone Kemp won the men's triple jump at 46 feet, 10 1/4 inches, while Tyler Berby claimed second. Ty Dawkins won the 60 meters with a time of 6.98 seconds, edging teammate Shaquil Higgs' 7.16.

Senior Jonas Matzen won the high jump at 6-2 1/2, with Zach Sweep taking second. Sweep also finished first in the 60-meter hurdles.

MSUM's 1,600 relay team, consisting of Dawkins, Connor Lehr, Kendrick Major and Clay Jackson took home first with a time of 3 minutes, 29 seconds, while Nick Marshall won the 1,000 meter run.

Lastly, senior Kathryn Sistrunk's time of 11:02 was good enough for first place. She was also the runner-up in the mile.

The Dragons are next at the UND Open and Multis Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
