Fargo Force season comes to end with loss at Omaha

Evan Werner scored two goals as the Lancers won for a second-straight night and knocked the Force out of the Clark Cup playoffs on Tuesday.

OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha's Evan Werner scored two goals and the Lancers ended Fargo's season with a 4-2 win in the second game of a best-of-three Clark Cup playoffs first round series on Tuesday before 993 at Liberty First Credit Union Arena.

The Lancers defeated the Force 5-2 in Monday's series opener.

Fargo's Bret Link opened the scoring with a goal at 8:39 of the first period on an assist from Max Smolinski. But Omaha's Alex Bump tied it about a minute later and Werner scored the go-ahead goal at 5:59 of the second.

Werner made it 3-1 with a goal at 5:59 of the third, and Fargo's Kyle Smolen scored on the power play at 12:02 of the third on assists from Trevor Griebel and Felikss Gavars.

But the Lancers repelled Fargo's attempts to tie in the final eight minutes and Omaha's Michael Cameron put the game away with an empty net goal at 19:17.
