Mark Knutson, executive director of The Fargo Marathon, announced Wednesday its "Shoes for Kids" charity.

The Marathon, with races scheduled for May 17-19, hopes to draw 10,000 runners to its May 18 5K run-walk so it can purchase 1,000 pairs of running shoes for elementary-aged kids in the Fargo-Moorhead area who can not afford them.

One dollar from each registration fee for the 5K event will go towards purchasing the Nike running shoes. The Dakota Medical Foundation and Blue Cross-Blue Shield will match each donation.
