The Fargo School Board will discuss the future of varsity hockey as well as other extracurricular activities on March 23.

A committee of the board decided Wednesday to discuss and receive an update from the three high school principals on extracurricular activities in the school district.

Some parents of hockey players have requested the district address the sport, concerned that Fargo South and Fargo Davies high schools will field a blended varsity hockey team next year instead of two separate teams.

"I don't think one activity item is enough to direct our administration on," board president Dan Fremling said on Wednesday. "But when it comes to the entire activities - absolutely."

Board members have said they've received about a dozen e-mails and a couple phone calls about the hockey teams in the last few weeks from concerned parents.
