FARGO — The Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-4 in American Association baseball Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field before 339 fans.

The Goldeyes, who sit atop the American Association standings, surged early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second inning. The RedHawks quickly responded, however, plating all four of their runs in the top of the third. Correlle Prime hit an RBI single to start the rally. Drew Ward then blasted a three-run home run, his seventh this year, to lead the RedHawks.

Prime, Forrestt Allday, Ward and Leobaldo Pina each had two hits for the RedHawks. F-M starter Tyler Pike (1-4) notched the loss. He gave up five runs (four earned) on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts through 4 1/3 innings.

After the RedHawks' outburst, Winnipeg knotted it up in the bottom of the third via a Logan Hill RBI double. Eric Wood then gave the Goldeyes the lead for good with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth.

F-M (12-22) and Winnipeg (20-14) will play the series finale at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night at Newman.
