PIERRE, S.D. - North Dakota State has found some gems out of the eastern side of South Dakota with names like Trevor Gebhart and Austin Kuhnert.
They hope they've found another in the Rushmore State, this time out west.
Pierre senior Grey Zabel announced on Twitter Tuesday night that he has verbally committed to play football at NDSU in the fall of 2020. Zabel is 6'5, 240 pounds and plays both offensive and defensive line. He'll play on the offensive side of the ball in college. He's been a part of Pierre's last two state 11AA championship teams, playing center in the state title game. On defense Zabel had 32 tackles, 11 for loss and five sacks on defense.
Zabel is a two-sport standout, who also received an offer to play baseball at South Dakota State. NDSU was the first to offer Zabel a football scholarship in late March.
Zabel's commitment brings NDSU's total to 18 for the Class of 2020. He continues a tradition of South Dakota players to play at NDSU, joining the likes of Preston Evans, Jarrod and Derrek Tuszka, Dan Marlette, Coulter Boyer and on this year's team, Spencer Waege and Costner Ching.
