Concordia slipped to a 5-5 record last season after struggles on both sides of the ball. Terry Horan begins his 19th season with a two year starter in DGF's Blake Kragness at quarterback. The Cobbers played two Wisconsin heavyweights in non-conference and then have to play at St. Thomas and St. John's. The Cobbers will win more games than they lose, but barely.
2018 was magical for Minnesota State Moorhead. The Dragons won eight games and reached their first ever bowl game. Steve Laqua has a new contract and 14 starters back to try and reach the D-2 playoffs. The preseason poll has the Dragons right in the middle of the ultra-tough Northern Sun, and I think that's accurate. MSUM usually beats someone they're not supposed to and this year the key is not to lose to a team they're not supposed to.
Last year I said it was a monster year for Bubba Schweigert at UND. If that was monstrous, this year is titanic. Schweigert has to win this season and I'm not sure if they're going to. The Fighting Hawks have one of the toughest schedules in the FCS, games with NDSU, Eastern Washington, UC Davis and Sam Houston State. If the Fighting Hawks win one of those games, that's a big deal. I don't see a winning record this year, and I think UND may be in line for a new coach.
New head coach, new quarterback, new coordinators. Lot of newness on the north side of Fargo, but there are a couple of constants. A great defense and good running game. Both will deliver in spades this year for the Bison. Trey Lance is going to have some wow moments, both good and bad, but that's what happens with a redshirt freshman quarterback. The Bison are going to get beat this year, I think multiple times. But they still have the formula to make a deep playoff run.
