GLYNDON, Minn. — The No. 1-seeded Rebels rolled to victory over eighth-seeded Thief River Falls on Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota Class 3A, Section 8 tournament.
Donovan Verdi paced the Rebels with 75 rushing yards on six carries. Verdi, Cade Sogge, Justin Wang, Brady Winter and Carter Steen each had rushing scores. Defensively, the Rebels dominated, holding the Prowlers off the scoreboard until deep into the fourth quarter. D-G-F had 391 yards of offense, while holding TRF to 121.
The Rebels (8-1), who beat TRF 47-0 on Sept. 20, are scheduled to host Fergus Falls in the semifinals at 2 p.m. Saturday. TRF finished the season 0-9 overall.
Moorhead Park Christian 26, Nevis 14
NEVIS, Minn. — No. 5 seed Park Christian took down No. 4 Nevis in the opening round of the Minnesota Class 9-man, Section 6 tournament.
Payton Spaeth threw for 172 yards and three touchdowns, and added a rushing touchdown to lead the Falcons. Ian Ziebarth rushed for 137 yards and hauled in a 61-yard touchdown reception. Jonah Williams and Allen Daugherty had touchdown catches of 58 and 28 yards, respectively.
Williams, Tanner Giese, Daugherty and Phillip Lien each had a fumble recovery for the defense, while Jeffery Schwanke had one sack.
With the win, the Falcons (5-4) will travel to take on No. 1-seeded Win-E-Mac at 2 p.m. Saturday. Nevis ended the season at 4-5 overall.
