FARGO — The Fargo Davies football program will have a new head man in 2020.
Eagles head football coach Jason Thielges announced Tuesday that he is stepping down from the program.
“My decision was purely a family decision,” Thielges said in a post on Twitter. “I really want to pursue other interests in the fall, especially hunting, and sharing those experiences with my kids before it's too late. I am completely healthy, happy, and excited about the future.”
Thielges has led the team since the program began in 2009, missing the 2016 season due to health concerns. The Eagles won a state championship under Thielges in 2014. And this fall, they went 7-3 and were East Region runners-up before falling to Mandan in the Class AAA playoffs.
“I want to thank all the players, parents, and coaches for a tremendous time being the Fargo Davies Football Head Coach,” he continued in a second Tweet. “ I met so many great people and got to coach so many awesome young men.”
