FARGO - Tim Ailes, the veteran club professional from Delaware, Ohio, has taken a liking to the Fargo Country Club. Ailes won his third Bobcat North Dakota Open on Sunday, ending a quest that began with consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011.
The Dakotas Tour win was worth $10,000 to Ailes, plus he earned an additional $4,500 credit toward the PGA Qualifying School entry fee. Ailes carded three consistent rounds of 67-69-68 to finish 12-under. Alistair Docherty from Vancouver, Wash., shot a 65 on Sunday and finished at 10-under.
Brady Calkins, the Dakotas Tour money leader, finished in a tie for seventh. It was by far the biggest payday of the Dakotas Tour season for Ailes, whose previous best effort was a tied for third at a tournament in Yankton, S.D., that netted him $6,500.
