Dan Hammer's sports talk show will return to 740 The Fan less than two months after the program was canceled.

The new show will begin Oct. 27. It will run from noon to 1 p.m. weekdays and focus on local and regional sports.

"We had a lot of feedback in terms of people wanting a local sports show in the market," Hammer said. "Because of that feedback, we've made another commitment to a local show."

Hammer previously hosted a noon to 2 p.m. show that ran for less than a year before it was pulled from the air in early September. At the time Hammer said the move was made so he could devote more time to KFGO-AM's daily sports reports.

Both 740 The Fan and KFGO are owned by Radio Fargo-Moorhead.

Another factor might have been ratings. The summer ratings period showed 740 The Fan's numbers dipped in the noon to 2 p.m. slot. Hammer's show was sandwiched by a pair of Twin Cities shows, P.A. and Dubay and a tape delay of The Common Man Show.

Hammer's show was replaced by the live version of The Common Man Show and Chad Hartman's program filled the 2-4 p.m. slot.

Now, 740 The Fan will pick up the second half of The Common Man Show at 1 p.m. and that will be followed by Hartman's show.

Hammer will continue to host Bison Rewind on Monday's from noon-1 p.m. for the remainder of North Dakota State's football season.

Two other regular weekly guests who appeared on Hammer's previous show - University of North Dakota hockey coach Dave Hakstol and outdoors specialist Doug Leier - will not return.

"We've tweaked a few things and we've changed a few things, but we're committed to local sports talk on The Fan," Hammer said.
