DETROIT LAKES, Minn. -- Moorhead held Detroit Lakes to two points in the first quarter and won 58-34 in its season opener in girls basketball Thursday.

Jackie Gulsvig had 13 points for the Spuds, who are ranked No. 7 in Class 4A. Kayla Hooten added 11.

The Lakers fell to 1-1.

Spartans rout Green Wave

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. -- Fargo North-West Fargo scored eight goals in the second period on its way to a 10-0 shutout of East Grand Forks Thursday in girls hockey.

Amy Currier scored a hat trick and added two assists. Katie O'Leary had the Spartans first two goals and had two assists, both of which came on Currier goals.
