High school roundup: Willmar stops D-G-F

Willmar defeated Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in three games Saturday in the championship match of the Moorhead Pumpkin Classic volleyball tournament.

Willmar earned a 21-25, 25-21, 15-13 victory over the Rebels, despite Jennifer Lopez's 20 kills.

Willmar, the No. 9 ranked team in Minnesota Class 3A, took the win after the ball softly rolled over the net on match point.

"Not much you can do,"D-G-F coach Jean Lopez said. "It was a great final. Great teams, certainly great competition."

D-G-F, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, defeated No. 1-ranked Lake of the Woods 25-12, 25-16 in the semifinals.

Jennifer Lopez had eight kills and eight aces in the win.

Willmar beat Moorhead 25-21, 25-23 in the semifinals.

Lake of the Woods edged Moorhead 25-13, 22-25, 15-11 in the third-place match.

Kate Grogan had five kills, in each of the Spuds' (18-8) matches.
