Des Moines powers past Force to start USHL playoffs

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines defeated the Fargo Force 7-3 Monday at Buccaneer Arena in the first round of the United States Hockey League playoffs before 1,653 fans.

The Buccaneers to a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Des Moines had a 33-25 edge in shots. Force goalies Ryan Bischel and Tyler Johnson finished with 14 and 12 saves, respectively. Ondrej Pavel, Ben Meyers and Justin Lee each had a goal for the Force. Hank Crone added two assists.

Jonny Russel scored two goals for the Buccaneers. The Force and Des Moines play again at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
