FARGO — Tri-City skated to a 5-2 victory over the Fargo Force on Thursday night in United States Hockey League action at Scheels Arena.
The game was even at 1-1 after the first period. Kyle Aucoin scored for Tri-City midway through the first, but the Force's Aaron Huglen buried the equalizer at the 18 minutes, 5 seconds mark of the frame.
Nick Strom pushed the Force (13-5-2) ahead with a goal 8:36 into the second period. Tri-City then came to life and scored the game's next four goals. Adam Klapka and Gavin Brindley each found the back of the net for the Storm (9-6-1) in the final six minutes of the second period. Mark Estapa pushed it to 4-2 at the 11:11 mark of the third, and Nick Portz scored an empty-netter with just over a minute left to seal the win.
Fargo and Tri-City are scheduled to play Game 2 of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Scheels Arena.
