SEATTLE — Moorhead graduate Will Borgen is on his way to Seattle.
The former Spuds and Buffalo Sabres defenseman was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the NHL Expansion Draft on Wednesday. He was among 30 players selected by the first-year franchise.
Borgen made his NHL debut with Buffalo on March 26, 2019. He appeared in a total of 14 games across the 2018-19 and 2020-21 seasons. The Sabers drafted him 92nd overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
He has spent most of his professional career with the Sabres’ AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He has 25 points and four goals in 136 career games for Rochester.
Borgen tallied a total of 18 goals and 54 assists across three seasons at Moorhead and made a trip to the MSHSL State Tournament in 2013. After completing his high school senior season with the Spuds, he joined the Omaha Lancers of the United State Hockey League where he tallied six points in 18 games.
Borgen played three seasons at St. Cloud State, tallying a total of five goals and 36 assists. He won the NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year award and was an all-NCHC Honorable Mention in his junior year.
