CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Fargo Force, down three goals in the second period, rallied to defeat Team USA 5-4 in overtime on Sunday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
The Force's Tyson Gross scored the game-winner at 1:53 of overtime on an assist from Felikss Gavars. This came after Gavars scored on an assist from Gross to tie the game at 2:14 of the third period.
Frank Nazar III scored twice in the first period after Isaac Howard scored the game's first goal to put Team USA up 3-0.
Fargo's Erik Bargholtz scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 7:55 of the second but Team USA's Marek Hejduk reestablished the three-goal edge with a goal just 23 seconds later. Then Fargo got it going late in the second and early in the third.
Cole Knuble scored on the power play at 18:09 of the second on assists from Charlie Lurie and Trevor Griebel. Jacob Braccini made it a one-goal game with another power play goal at 19:26 on an assist from Jakob Stender, and Gavars tied it in the third.
Force goalie Anton Castro made 32 saves and Team USA's Tyler Muszelik stopped 33 shots.
The Force, who lost to Chicago the night before in their season opener, opens their home schedule against Sioux City at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Scheels Arena.
