FARGO - Grand Forks Central showed why its the prohibitive favorite to win a third straight state championship on Thursday, dusting Mandan, 14-0. The Knights goal total matched the most scored in a game since 1977.
Central will face Bismarck, after the Demons knocked off Fargo South-Shanley, 4-3 in overtime. Dain Sardelli scored the game winning goal at 1:09 of overtime to send Bismarck into the semifinal round.
In the night session, Bismarck Century rallied to tie the game with Grand Forks Red River in the third period, then Nicholas Brown scored the game winning goal halfway thru overtime to give the Patriots a 2-1 win.
They will play Fargo Davies in the semifinals, the Eagles were led by an Aidan Potus hat trick to cruise past Minot, 8-3. The Eagles will face Century in the semifinals at 5:30 on WDAY.
