Scheels Arena adjusting for NCAA Hockey Regional without UND competing

Hosting the NCAA Hockey West Regional is nothing new for the Scheels Arena staff, but doing it without the Fighting Hawks competing will test how this venue can fill its seats.

FARGO — The NCAA Hockey tournament field was unveiled Sunday night, March 24, with St. Cloud State, American International, Denver and Ohio State coming to Fargo for the West Regional.

The University of North Dakota will be hosting the games, but for the first time, at Scheels Arena, the Fighting Hawks won't be competing.

Leaving a big challenge to get fans eager to fill the seats.

"We have a lot of trust and partnership with UND, so we've worked well with them the past two years. This is the first year they will not be playing in the event, so that's new for us," President of Scheels Arena Jon Kram said. "We're working on how do we get the fans still to come out. "

Ohio State will take on Denver on Friday, March 29, at 3 p.m. and St. Cloud State will face American International at 6:30 p.m.
