AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tom Hoge's first-ever competitive round at The Masters on Thursday probably wasn't exactly what he was hoping for, but it also wasn't the opening day disaster that befell several of the PGA Tour's big names.
The Fargo pro shot a 1-over 73 and he is among 12 golfers tied for 31st place after the tournament's first day at Augusta National Golf Course.
Sungjae Im shot a 5-under 67 and leads Cameron Smith by one shot. Former Masters champions Dustin Johnson and Danny Willett both shot 3-under 69s and are tied with Joaquin Niemann and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler for third.
Hoge is tied with the likes of one of his playing partners, former Masters champion Bubba Watson, and Rory McIlroy, Marc Leishman and former University of Minnesota player Erik van Rooyen.
