Shanley Holiday tournament

The scoop

Minneapolis DeLaSalle has dominated the tournament in recent history, winning the tournament in each of the last four years. The Islanders return another talented, but youthful, squad led by Jadee Jones. The Deacons, who played in the title game last year, have an experienced team that should be able to make a strong run. Guard play should be at a premium as most teams have strong talent in its backcourts. Intriguing to watch, because like the Moorhead tournament, it is a bracketed setup and one champion will be decided.

- Morgan Ranstrom, 6-1, Sr., G, Fargo Shanley

- Matt Witwer, 6-5, Sr., G, Minot

Concordia Classic Holiday tournament

The scoop

Boasting tenacious defense, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton is one of the teams to watch in the Concordia Classic. The Rebels have a pair of interesting games with up-and-coming Park Christian and Oak Grove, expected to be one of the top teams in North Dakota Class B this season. Rebels 6-foot-10 sophomore Adam Holte is raw, but always seems to make an impact. Holte and 6-foot-7 Oak Grove center Brian Wiest is a matchup to watch for on the final day. Pelican Rapids is also a team that could do some damage with the brother combo of Tyler and Travis Lage leading the way. Park Christian forward Grant Gunhus is a three-year starter as a sophomore.

Moorhead Holiday tournament

The scoop

Moorhead and Fergus Falls played for the championship a year ago and both teams are on opposite sides of the bracket again. Roseville is a new entrant, guided by head coach Mark Askerooth, who had coaching stints at Fargo South and Fargo North. Spuds guard David Erickson is a three-year starter and is expected to lead an inexperienced Moorhead squad. Fergus Falls forward Matt Draxten is lanky, versatile and has the Otters off to an undefeated start.
